The Pasadena Master Chorale is an auditioned volunteer community chorus dedicated to refined choral singing. We rehearse every Monday evening, plus one Wednesday evening per month and one Saturday morning per month. Singers pay modest annual dues, but no qualified singer will be kept from PMC by an inability to pay.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE AUDITION
Sing a solo piece with piano accompaniment. An accompanist will be provided. Pick a piece you know well and feel confident singing. It can be in any genre (classical, opera, musical theatre, folk, sacred, etc.), and it should show your vocal quality and musicality. Be sure to bring three copies of the music to your audition.
Demonstrate musicianship by singing intervals and scales, performing rhythms, and singing a simple a cappella melody at sight.
Sight-read one part in a four-part choral selection, accompanied by piano.
The entire audition takes about 10 minutes.
The Pasadena Master Chorale welcomes people of all backgrounds. We actively seek to assemble a group of excellent singers that reflects our greater community—diverse in race, ethnicity, gender, belief, sexual orientation, age and physical ability. From the strength of our differences we create beauty through unified choral singing.
Auditions are held by appointment every August and occasionally at other times.
